Welcome to our new and exciting Racing Club. Our aim is to provide the thrill of owning a racehorse, and the excitement of seeing it run at the races and experiencing all at a reasonable cost. Chris and Jenny Gordon, following very successful careers in the point-to-point world, are now in their fourth season at Morestead Stables. Each year they have increased their seasonal totals in both the number of winners and prize money won. This is not a gambling yard but it has a high proportion of long priced winners, in fact if you had staked £10 on all of the Morestead Stable runners over jumps you would be better off by £675! The Gordon team is certainly going places and people are beginning to sit up and take notice.
The Horses
We have three fun horses ready to run for us over the course of the next twelve months. Please note that each member has a stake in each of the horses, so when they get sold at the end of the year you will be entitled to a share of any sale proceeds.
ABSOLUTE SHAMBLES 7-y-o bay gelding by Shambo out of Brass Castle (Carlingford Castle)
Sham is already a winner of three races at Fontwell, Huntingdon and Plumpton and has been a grand servant to the stable. He has shown a preference for steeplechases over 3 miles plus on good ground and regular jockey Colin Bolger has built up an excellent rapport with him. Sham is still only a 7-y-o and hasn’t yet reached his peak; he is an excellent jumper and staying steeplechases like the Southern, Sussex and Kent Grand Nationals should be on his agenda for the forthcoming season.
BON SPIEL 7-y-o brown gelding by Singspiel out of L’Affaire Monique (Machiavellian)
Bon Spiel has already seen a bit of the world, he started his racing career in Italy, was then transferred to race in Dubai before ending up in the UK. He was once rated in the 100’s on the flat, at that time he was running in Group and Listed races. He has now dropped to a very attractive handicap mark which Chris intends to make full use of in the coming weeks. He has also shown some promise over hurdles and the plan would be to combine both flat and hurdles in the year ahead. He will be ready to run very soon and will probably be one of our first runners in early May at Fontwell Park. He is also bred in the purple and is related to recent Dubai World Cup winner Victoire Pisa.
MARIE DÉJÀ LA 5-y-o bay mare by Daliapour out of Comedie Divine (Lesotho)
A recent recruit from France, Marie has already won four times over jumps in her native country and amassed over £50k in prize money. She has shown a preference for soft ground and will be aimed at both hurdles and chases in the winter. She appears to be an ideal candidate for jump races in France and the rest of Europe where she can take advantage of the better prize money on offer. She will be adding an extra ingredient to the club.
We intend to have at least two horses running for the Club at any one time throughout the year and in the event that one or more are injured for a long period we will try to replace it with another of similar quality. Most of our runners will be at the racecourses in southern England but we will be looking at other suitable races around the country as well as in France, Belgium and the Channel Islands.
