Chris and Jenny Gordon came to Morestead stables in the summer of 2007 after a long and successful career in the Point to Point world. They lease the property from Chris Chapman whose family is the fourth generation to own land in the area - an the landlord now gets to enjoy riding out when he has the opportunity.

The yard has a historical past. Eddie de Mestre, whose father was one of the most succesful trainers in Australia, arrived at the stables in 1926 and built up a good success rate until sadly dying of a heart attack in 1932. For a number of years the stables had only spasmodic use but then in 1965 as the base for Harry Willis, a lovable slightly eccentric character who trained with modest success until the early 1990s and died in 2000. In July that year Brendan Powell came to Morestead when he started his training career and left only when he outgrew the accommodation.

This is an area of racing greats - the Days and Cannons of Danebury and Stockbridge, Arthur Yates the most successful Jump trainer ever until the days of Martin Pipe, was at Bishops Sutton and in more recent times Les Hall at Littleton and Bill Wightman for some many years successful at Owslebury.

Chris and Jenny hope for inspiration from this background and with a new all weather gallop and extensive facilities for exercising and schooling horses look forward to the future with enthusiasm and with currently around 30 horses in training and some seven pointers under Jenny's guidance.
